THE WANGANUI CHRONICLE AND RANGITIKEI MESSENGER. “ Verite sans peur.” WANGANUI, JULY 23, 1863.
The Wellington" mail 1 lias • not • arrived, owing to its being sent by steamer, instead of overland as usual. A letter, however, which has been received by a Rangitikei settler, mentions that later American news had ‘reached Wellington to the effect ‘ that - the Federate had sustained another fearful ; defeat at Fredericksburg, with loss of more than 30,000 meti, but that the Confederates had fallen back tb defend Richmond. The ; Duke of Newcastle’s Despatch is of sb much-importance that, rather than omit or curtail it, we. have preferred to give up the space usually occupied by our leader. It states the case from the English poiut of view so forcibly that we commend it to the careful attention of our readers.. ..
