Wanganui Native District. —Tlie Resident Magistrate, J. White, Esq., returned on Saturday last from a tour up the river. ,He went about 80 miles above Wanganui, bolding courts at various places. lie was everywhere well received, and his decisions appeared to give entire satisfaction. We shall publish next week a summary of the eases that came before him. -

The Wanganui Natives.— News was received at the end of last week from a reliable source at Piperiki up to the 22nd inst, to the effect that in consequence of letters received from Hori Patene, the natives are all rising for the fight. On Thursday the 23rd, the natives were to leave Piperiki via Karewarewa for Taranaki. Pelii was to stay at the Kiri tali i (Kaiwhike), to take care of the Pakelms. Pehi had sent a note to Mr. \\ lute who was at Kauaeroa to meet him at Piperiki on the -3rd that he might hear what had been decided on 'i lie writer did not think Mr. White would be able to prevent their going to fight. They hail their runanga about going at V\ anganui-o-te-ao. The’writer says :—“ The natives are very confident in their own powers. They are prepai-ing for a final struggle.” Since receipt of this letter, Mr. White has returned. He did not, we believe, accept Pebi’s invitation, being busy elsewhere, but only heard of 30 men having gone to Tai’anaki. ■ - Last week about forty, armed to the teeth, passed the Brunswick Station on their road to Taranaki, and they reported that about two hundred bad gone by a route further inland, but very likely the number is considerably exaggei'ated. Caledonian Rangers. —'l lie followinggentlemen are gazetted as officers in this Volunteer Company James Allison, to be Captain. Alex. McGregor, to be Lieutenant, Allan Lees, to be Ensign. Tlie date of The Commissions is the 16th April. Petty Sessions —A warrant is published in the New Zealand for Petty Sessions of the Pence being held at Turakina on the second Thursday in every month , and at Marsden, Upper. Rangiiikei, in the Court-house, on tlie third Wednesday of every month. Cattle Sale. — : On Thursday last Messrs. Taylor, Watt, and Co. sold a large'number of stoi-e cattle at from 4 1 to 61 a head ; young stock brought 21 to 4/. New Zealand Steam Navigation Company. —For the convenience of pas sengers going further south than Wellington, the Company’s agents here give through tickets by their boats. Potatoes. —The price has fallen within these few days, 5s Cil to Gs being now the price asked on the beach. The late crop has turned out remarkably well in tlie native grounds. Our Members. —Messrs. Hewett and Peake left for Wellington on Saturday overland ; Messrs. Allison and Watt go by the steamer’ to-morrow.
