We stop the press to give a summary of the most important news in the Taranaki Herald of 11th inst., just received by the Heron :
The Tatafairaaka block was occupied on the :4th by 200.0 f the 57th, 100 of. the Artillery as ‘ a mounted corps, with 2 guns, and 6 engineers. His Excellency, General Cameron, Mr. Domett, and Mr. Bell, &cT'‘a(C'fc'oflipanied'‘ tlffi Force; returning on Monday with the exception of the General. A redoubt has been built on Bayley’s farm, near the edge of the cliff on the - road near - the Ivatikara Biver.
The Maoris seem to have been taken by surpr sed, and express themselves as resolved on wsr, if they obtain assistance from the tribes to whom they have sent Hori Patene, a Wanganui chief, is prevented by the Taranaki natives from going north to see the Governor. Armed natives guarded the “ gate ” at the south of the Tataraimaka. The southern natives rre bringing in cattle for sale ; one lot realised 350£ Gunpowder in request; 20s. offered for a lb.
Capt. Laing of the Heron , however, reports personally, that there will not be a shot tired.
