SOUTHLAND

Two important sales of townlands have been held this week. One consisted of 35 half-acre sections, at Richmond Grove, the property of Mr. Thomas Robinson, about a mile from the present Town Belt. The highest price obtained, was .£6O 10s; several fetched from £47 to £53 and £65 ; and the total realized for 1172 acres was above £llO0 —showing an average of over £9O, for semi-suburban land close to Inveicargill. The other sale was of 36 sections; 7 in Riverton, 6 Campbelltown,and the remainder in Invercargill. - The total realized was nearly £ll7O, showing ah average on the whole of some £32. In Campbelltown & Invercargill, several sold for from £42 to £59. —Southern Slews, March 22.

From our advertising columns, it will be seen that subscriptions are being collected for the purpose of procuring a Minister for the Mataura district. This district contains a very numerous population, scattered over a great' ext mt ot country; the idea therefore of erecting a church, is we understand, not at present entertained; but the money collected will be expended on the erection ot a suitable house for the Minister who may be settled in the district, and whose duty it will be to visit from house to house—acting, in fact, as a Missionary. Mr. M,Nab volunteers to give /100 towards the salary of a Minister, if two other parties can be found willing to do the same. —lbid
