NELSON.
At the Criminal Sittings of the Supreme Court on the. 16th, 17th and 18th January: - Joseph Ellis was found guilty of manslaughter, having killed Esau Russ on the 2nd November last, He was sentenced to imprisonment with hard labour for ten years. Matilda Elisa Haslam was found guil--ty of manslaughter through having administered an overdose of, rum and peppermint to her infant on the 22nd Oct. last. She was sentenced to twelvemonths’ imprisonment with hard labour.
Petene, an aboriginal native, was found guilty of murdering on the 16th September last, Pare, a. woman who lived with him as his wife, but was recorpmended to mercy by the jury on the ground of having received great provocation through jealousy. He was sentenced to be hanged.
