Watt, ENTLEMEN,—The dissolution of tlic 1 ite !|jf Provincial Council, by bis Excellency the Governor, which has at length been determined upon, rendei's a fresh election of members necessary. We, whose names are hereto subscribed, feeling the imperative necessity at this period more than on any previous similar occasion, of having to represent us four men whose opinions on all important, subjects are iu unison with our own; and among whom also wc can feel certain that, unanimity exists oh all, or most, of the questions affecting our political welfare, beg respectfully to X’equest that you will allow youi’selves to be put in nomination as Candidates to represent this Constituency. From your long residence amongst us, and the experience we have had of your fitness to take part in the legislation of the Province, we feel no hesitation in pledging ourselves in the event of your compliance with our wishes, not only to record our votes, but to use our influence in your favour when the day of election arrives. Rangitikei, March 3, 1861. iIENTLEMEN, -—I beg to acknowledge the receipt of a Requisition, signed by yourselves and other Electors of the districts jof Wanganui, 7’urakina, and Rangitikei, in viting. Messrs. Watt, //arrison, Allison, and myself, to become Candidates for seats in the Provincial Council at the coming election. Recent events encourage me tp hope, that the Constituencies, of. the province have discovered the error they committed, in electing to the Provincial Council, on the last occasion, a majority of, members whose' object was to oppose and thwart the. policy of the Superintendent. The firmness of the latter has, I Hope, defeated the aims of what is termed the Wakefield party ; which, if we may judge from all we lieai, is pretty nearly fallen to
