Resident "Magistrate’s Court. —ln the following debt ;cases judgment. was confessed— Nov. 19, Kepa and others v. Win. Graham, £3; John Connell v. James Barlow, £Q 17s ; G. and E. Howe v. Wm. Graham, Id. The Auction Sale at the Lio»«/nnflheld by Messrs. Taylor, Watt and Co., htst Th'ursday, went, off very satisfactorily. Tile Inn and furniture brought «£ lppO. , It - was sold to Mr.; Andrew Green, who, from his experience in connexion with the Conimercial -here will no doubt conduct the business satisfactorily both to himself and the public. The cattle went off at excellent prices, better than any that have been obtained for a long time by public auction, milch cows in rather low condition bringing A!3 10s to T 4 lbs a head. A inure foundered in the hind legs, with young foal, sold at ,£37 IBs; a gelding at A>23 * auother, aged, at £2l ; a yearling foal at ;£l3. The attendance was large and the bidding spirited. Imported Merinos; — We' beg to direct attention to an ’advertisement of three sheep, arrived by the Wonga VVbnga from Wellington, ex Thames City from London. These sheep have been obtained from one of'the'most celebrated breeders in England. They are young, healthy, and ia. excellent condition, considering their long voyage, and we liope the importer will be compensated for his trouble in endeavouring to improve our breed of this valuable animal.
The Woxca Wong a has not, we ; believe, been chartered for six ■ months by Messrs. Taylor, Watt, and Co., as they purposed, but only for the one trip of this week, so that we have meanwhile lost the prospect of a regular communication with Taranaki.
Da. Featiierston, it is said, intends being
in Wanganui iu the course of next week. WKLJ.IJVG TON. (From our own Correspondent.) ' Saturday Morning, • Nov. 17, 1860. You would anticipate from my last that. Taylor, Watt and C.o’s offer for the Wonga /Tonga would be accepted. Arrivals during
the week—Barque Snaresbrook, from New castle; brig Gazelle, Sydney ; both with coals for the Coleman Company. No intelligence of the ill fated William and Alfred ; all hopes are now abandoned; it is supposed she foundered, and all hands lost. The s.s. Airedale arrived, with Capt. 7’urner, passenger; the ball has not yet been extracted; it is, however, I rejoice to say, not dangerous, but unfortunately tedious; he does not now suffer so much pain ; the wound flows freely, which - is a good symptom. and is dressed twice a day. 2’hames City arrived yesterday, with a large and good saleable cargo from London. I perceive there are on board for Messrs. Taylor, IV att ami Co., three superior Merino rams and one ewe; she brings no later Auckland 1
news. The Margaret Thompson has arrived at Nelson from Melbourne ; she is expected here daily with her cargo for this port.' Our elections are fixed for the returning of members for the' house of Representatives, namely—City of Wellington, 10th; Hutt, L 2th ; Wairarapu, 12th ; Country Districts, 15th, December. The late town members request to meet their constituents next Friday, and the Hutt to-night. No opposition to any of the late members is yet started ; the whole of them have agreed to offer themselves again as candidates. I believe they will -walk the course; at any rate they are all quite safe. Mr. W. W. Taylor, it is hinged, will stqnd in the p’ace of Sir C. Clifford.
