Wanganui Rifles; No. 2 Company. —At a meeting, of the committee on the' 6th inst., Thos. Powell, issq., in the chair, the,following resolution was carried unanimously;- “ That as it is the intention of Major Cooper to call upon the : volunteers to form patrols , during the ensuing week, and as the whole duty attendant thereon will fall on the noncommissioned officers, it is absolutely necessary that a special general meeting of the members of this company be called ri'ext at . 8 pan.; -for the purpose of electing qualified officers to fill any vacant posts,.and for the transaction of any other general business.” The committee met again ion the 13 th August. Messrs. Hill, Martelii, Francis, and Zind were duly elected members of ,No. 2 Company. Mr. Finnimore resigned his post as secretary. A general meeting was > held in the theatre at 8 p.m. Thos. Powell, Esq., was called to « the chair. Messrs. Rapley, Davidson, Gray, and Powell, we.re elected, sergeants; Messrs. C’olville, Brooking, D. Bell, and P. Bell, were elected corporals; Messrs. Colville and Durran were elected members of committee.) Ihe following gentlemen volunteered to serve on picket duty,. Messrs. Powell, Evans, Porter, Gudgeon, Foreman, J. Peake, Moyle, H. Peake, Wjcksteed,. W. DaVidson, J. Gaitt, Dayis, and /Toon. v . The committee again met at the Rutland Hotel. Mr. Henry Peake was unanimously elected secretary.. It was resolved, —That an iron target should be procured, similar to the one ordered by No. 1 Company and, — “ That the thanks of the Committee be tendered to Mr. Finnimore, the secretary, on his retirement, for the very efficient manner in which he has performed the duties -of that office.”
