Local Intelligence.

The troopis in garrison here, and the Volun teer rifles and cavalry, to the number of abou 350, formed on parade and brigaded in the Market-place on Tuesday morning, under the command' of Lieut. Colonel Wyatt, Major Cooper acting as Brigadier. The brigade marched past in quick and slow time, at open and quarter distance column, and wheeled into line. All the movements were executed with great-precision, and Lieut. Colonel Wyatt was pleased to express his great satisfaction with the manner in which the Volunteer corps cquitteda themselves. It will be ebserved by our Shipping intelligence, that the Wonga Wonga s.s. was aground near the bar as she went out of the river last. week. Some of the sheep thrown overboard reached the shore alive, and may stUl be found; but it is feared that the greater number have fallen a prey to the waves or to the Maoris in the neighbourhood, who have been enjoying a continued feast since the accident happened The pilot is blamable for not reporting the accident, which was not known till the mail from Wellington brought the intelligence of it to-day. The Wonga W ol) g a was not much injured, but the boiler has been taken, out to get at tiie leak; and as the Constantine, from London, which has a new boiler for heron board, is now due, having left the Downs on the 10th February last, only a short time is expected to elapse before she is again on the station.
