No Publication Tomorrow. “The “Times-Age” will not be published tomorrow, New Year’s Day.
Watch Night Service. A watch-night service will be held at the Masterton Methodist Church tonight, commencing at 11.30 o’clock.
Gala Dance Tonight. A gala New Year's Eve dance will be held in the Masonic Hall, Masterton, tonight by the Maori Interhouse girls’ team. A- special feature will be a star item at midnight. The After Beat orchestra will provide the music, and a happy time is assured patrons.
: he Wrong i ime. The electric clock installed by the Masterton Borough Council over Mr J. Ninnes's shop, opposite the Post Office, has been ten minutes slow since a power failure on Tuesday afternoon. It has been suggested that it would be better to cover the face altogether than to allow it to mislead the public, which is a serious matter if people place any reliance on it to connect with trains.
Fruit & Vegetable Prices. In contrast to the high prices reported to be ruling for fruit and vegetables in the main cities the prices obtaining in Masterton fruit shops are more reasonable. Tomatoes are priced at Is 6d to 2s per lb. (best quality); gooseberries, lOd per lb.; black currants, Is 6d per lb.; peaches, Is 6d per lb.; apricots, Is lOd per 1b,.; bananas (rather green), 7Ad per lb.;-cherries, 2s to 4s per lb.; plums, 9d per lb. to Is 4d per lb. (best); peas, 6d per lb.; bush marrows, 6d to Is each; French beans, Is 3d, and stringless, Is (id per lb.; and cauliflowers, 3d to 8d each. Tramper Missing.
Stanley Williams, aged 20, Christchurch, has been missing on the tableland near Mount Arthur (Nelson) since Thursday morning. He is one of a party of 21 members of the Canterbury Tramping Club who are spending their holidays in the Mount Arthur area. The party camped at Salisbury Hut on the tableland on Tuesday night. At 5 o'clock on Thursday morning Williams loft (he hut alone with a rille, intending to do some shooting, and did not return. A search by Ihe parly on Thursday was unsuccessful and the missing youth had not been found by yesterday when search parlies from Nelson and Motueka were organised.
Successful Dog. Champion Stamford Statesman, a pointer owned by Mr S. D. Geary, of Masterton, has added another outstanding success to his long list of wins al recent shows. On Wednesday the Hamilton Kennel Club held a new and altractive competition. 'Phis was a class iOf three rounds, the first being “the gift,” in which the winner receives £lO and a commemorative trophy. The second round was "the purse,” and was for dogs beaten in the first, round. The third was “the plate,” and was for dogs beaten in the second round. There were 36 dogs entered in the first round, and . Champion Stamford Statesman was the winner.
