MANY JAPANESE GROUPS ON CAPE GLOUCESTER VICTORIOUS AMERICAN ASSAULT. ENEMY RESISTANCE SMASHED. LONDON, December 30. A South-West Pacific communique states that American Marines on Cape Gloucester, New Britain, after hard fighting have smashed Japanese resistance. Many of the enemy groups were wiped out in the final assault. -*ie American losses were light. y
