ARMED VIGILANTES FORMED BIG SCALE OPERATIONS SYDNEY. December 19. Poultry farmers near Sydney have formed bands of armed vigilantes to deal with thieves who raid poultry runs. Attracted by the high Christmas prices ruling and the fact that mdat rationing will start In the new year, thieves have been more active and daring than usual. One farmer at Pendle Hill lost his entire stock when he was visited on three successive nights. Four hundred birds were stolen on each of the first two nights and 600 on the third. Even sick birds were taken. At a farm at Smithfield 200 birds disappeared. The thieves cut through the wire runs and sprayed the birds with ether to keep them quiet. Then they loaded them on to a lorry.
