NEW YEAR HOLIDAY
RACES & BOWLING TOURNE’/. ATTRACTIONS IN WAIRARAPA. The New Year holiday season looks like being a quiet one in the Wairarapa. Holiday attractions are confined to the Wairarapa Racing Club’s meeting at Tauherenikan tomorrow and on Monday and to the Wairarapa Bowling Centre s rinks tournament, to be played on New Year’s Day and Monday on the Masterton Club’s green. Masterton retailers, who will observe late shopping hours tonight, New Years Eve, will close until Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Most shops including butchers, will not open before Wednesday, but some stores and bakers will resume business on Tuesday. The number of people travelling on the Wairarapa line continues to be less than usual ct this time of the year. Tomorrow and on Monday, when two special trains are running each wav between Wellington and Masterton on both days, traffic is likely to be more brisk. Vehicular traffic will be prohibited from using Queen Street tonight between 7 p.m. and 9.80 p.m., in the area from the F.C.D. Co’s, corner to Wagg’s Garage.
