Squadron Leader F. J. McWlmmic, who has returned from England and America, is visiting relatives in Masterion. Official information has been received that Cpl. Frank Armitage, son of Mi- and Mrs W. Armitage, of Mataura, and formerly of IVI aster ton, has been killed in action. Mr S. G. Liidemann, Gordon Street, Lansdowne, has received word from his son, Pte. Albert Liidemann, reported wounded, that his injury is not serious. Five New Zealand journalists, Messrs Dumbleton, Freeth, Green, A. A. Hardcastle and Whitlock, have arrived in London to begin a Ministry of Information tour of Britain, a cablegram reports. Mr H. L. Cooper has been appointed secretary of the Wellington Fire Board, in succession to the late Mr H. S. Fairchild. There were 48 applicants. Mr Cooper is a public accountant and has also been treasurer of the Returned Services’ Association. Wellington. The death has occurred at his home in Claudelands of Mr George Moore, formerly stationmaster at Hamilton. Born in 1881, Mr Moore joined the Railways Department as a cadet at Petone on March 9, 1898, working in the Wellington district in various capacities. He was appointed stationmaster at Carterton in May, 1917, and was promoted to stationmaster at Hamilton in February, 1925. He retired on superannuation from that position on December 31, 1931, and was-latterly on the staff of the Ncav Zealand Co-opera-tive Dairy Company, Limited. Mr Moore is survived by his wife, two sons, Messrs Robert and William Moore, and a daughter, Mrs B. G. Primrose.
