BOWLING

PROGRESSIVE PAIRS TOURNEY. Members of the Carterton Club held an all-day progressive pairs tournament yesterday. At the close of the day’s play, A. C. Tucker and W. Spooner (skips) had 3 wins and a draw each, the former winning on points by 69 to 56. Mr T. Harp, a first season's player, won the leads with 5 games to his credit. W. Hall was runner-up with 4 wins. Personal Items. Mr Vai. Lipinski left Carterton for Wellington yesterday. Mr and Mrs Frampton, of Hawera, are visiting Carterton. Mrs L. M. Jones, of Rhodes Street, received a message from her husband, who is serving overseas, that he had received his commission, and had been promoted to the rank of Flying Officer. Miss Norma McKenzie, of Broadway, left yesterday for Auckland, where she will spend a fortnight’s holiday. Mr and Mrs W. M. Worsfold, Broadway, are spending a holiday at Feilding. Cheese Consignment. A large consignment of cheese from various factories in this district is being loaded at the Carterton railway station for transit to the cool stores in Wellington. Postal Business. The business of the Carterton Post and Telegraph Office over Christmas, although heavy, was not equal to that of twelve months ago, when soldiers were camped in the vicinity of the town.
