“ATLANTIC WALL”

AGAIN BEING PLAYED UP BY GERMAN PRESS FOLLOWING ON THE ALLIED ANNOUNCEMENT. OF APPOINTMENT OF INVASION CHIEFS. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, December 27. Following on the appointment of the Allied invasion chiefs for the second front, the German Press is again playing up the strength of the Atlantic Wall. The German news agency, quoting the “Volkischer Beobachter,” said: “The men of the Atlantic Wall are cutting rocks to extend our widespread fortification system. Our camouflage has been perfected. The enormous surface is now entirely smoothed out, and trenches and ammunition dumps dug deep into the rocks are proof against all enemy attacks everywhere. German engineers are building fortifications against the undreamt of firing power of modern -arms. The Atlantic Wall fortifications range from the smallest resistance nests to the largest battery positions, forming an enormous barrier against attackers from the west.
