JAPANESE THROWN BACK ON YANGTSE CANTON AERODROME BOMBED HEAVILY ENEMY FIGHTERS SHOT DOWN (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.10 a.m.) CHUNGKING, December 27. Chinese forces, pursuing the retreating enemy, have reached the Hutu River which joins Lake Tungting and the Yangtse, from which the Japanese launched their Chanteh campaign, says a Chinese communique. Operations against the Japanese forces on the east bank of the Hutu began yesterday. General Stilwell's, communique reports that Liberators, escorted by fighters, dropped 13 tons of bombs on the Canton Aerodrome, starting fires. Fifteen Zeros intercepted, of which six were shot down.
American planes, supporting Chinese troops, dive-bombed Japanese installations near Kichun, north of Changteh, exploding an ammunition dump and causing many casualties and fires.
