GREYTOWN

LABOUR PARTY EUCHRE PARTY & DANCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a large attendance at the Christmas euchre party and dance held in the Odd Fellows’ Hall under the auspices of the Greytown branch of the Labour Party on Wednesday night. Mr J. Farmer, president of the branch, took the opportunity to welcome home Cpl. R. Montgomerie, who had recently returned from overseas. Mr Farmer, on behalf of the Labour Party, asked the guest of the evening to accept a small gift accompanied with the best wishes for his future welfare. Cpl. Montgomerie suitably replied. Mr Montgomerie Sent., thanked those present for the kind welcome extended to his son. The prize-winners at euchre were:— Ladies: Mrs Williams, 1; Mrs Hemi,-2. Men: Mr Strang, 1; Mr Hume, 2. Consolation prizes were won by Mrs L. Farmer and Mr Farmer. Special lucky numbers were won by Mrs Kilgour and Mr Hood. The music for the dancing was supplied by Mr S. Te Tau. An extra was played by T. Drysdale. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs A, G. Nisbet, of Humphrey Street, will spend Christmas at Taupo. Miss Awa Feast, of Ahiakouka, is home again after a holiday spent in Christchurch and Nelson. Misses Pat Sugrue and E. Sugrue, of the W.A.A.F., are home on Christmas leave. Miss Dulcie Haigh, of the. W.A.A.C., is spending leave in Greytown. Miss Askew, of the Greytown District High School, is spending her vacation in Nelson, where she will take up a new appointment after the holidays. Miss Cook, Dental Nurse, has gone io Wellington for the holidays. The Misses Best (2), of Wellington, arrived in Greytown today to spend Christmas with their parents, Mr and Mrs F. Best, Main Street. Miss Tully, of Waipawa, is spending the school vacation with her mother, Mrs Tully Senr., Main Street. Mrs Westward, of Brooklyn, is spending the Christmas holidays with her parents, Mr and Mrs E. Haigh, Main Street. Miss Stephens, Main Street, is visiting the Thames district. Miss F. Oxford is on a visit to Timaru. Miss W. Harding, of Pukekoe, is spending a few days in Greytown. Mrs J. Kiernan, who has been in the Greytown Hospital, has sufficiently recovered to be able to return home. TOWN HALL “BAD MEN OF MISSOURI.” Tonight’s programme will be headed by the thrilling drama, “Bad Men of Missouri,” featuring Denis Morgan and Jane Wyman. There will be special programmes tomorrow afternoon and evening, the principal feature being “You Were Never Lovelier,” with Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth in the chief roles.
