December 21. “Australa and New Zealand will have a joint responsibility in maintaining peace in the Pacific after the war,” said the New Zealand Minister of Finance. Mr Nash, in an interview on his arrival from New Zealand today. “Unity between Australia and Now Zealand is not only desirable but necessary if our countries are honestly to face up to their responsibilities as guardians of peace and progress in the Pacific.” Mr Nash said he was not in Australia in any official capacity, but he was taking the opportunity of seeing something of the latest developments in' Australia’s war effort before he returned to the United States. He had heard amazing accounts of Australia’s war effort. The New Zealand Press was full of praise of the magnificent fighting of the Australian troops in New Guinea. He had recently completed a tour of the South Pacific battle stations where the New Zealanders were engaged. The fame of the A.I.F. was well known to the New Zealanders in the Solomons. Mr Nash said he would not have time to visit Australian war plants, but he intended to call on the Prime Minister, Mr Curtin, and some CabinetMinisters. ,'i
