TIRAUMEA

CALVES AND LAMBS CHILDREN’S REARING COMPETITIONS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the annual calf and lamb competitions held at the Tiraumea School, the judges were Messrs Olsen and Hay. There were 14 entries for the competitions, the awards being as follows: — Champion lamb: Joyce Lindegreen. Best-woolled lamb: Joyce Lindegreen, 1; Grace Hansen, 2; Harvey Wright, 3. Best fat lamb; Joyce Lindegreen, 1; Harvey Wright, 2; Grace Hansen, 3. Best behaved pet: Doris Kitchen, 1; Judith Hislop, 2; Grace Hansen, 3. Champion calf: Marie Lindegreen. Best dairy calf: Grace Hansen, 1; Mollie McManaway, 2 and 3. Best beef type: Marie Lindegreen, 1; Mollie McManaway, 2 and 3. Best behaved calf: Mollie McManaway, 1; Marie Lindegreen, 2; Grace Hansen, 3. After the judging the children entertained the adults at morning tea in the school building. Marion Robbie thanked the judges and those who had assisted in connection with the competition. Messrs Olsen and Hay addressed those present. School Dance. The annual school dance was largely attended. The school children entertained with items. Mr Robbie (deputy chairman of the school committee) presented the prizes, each child receiving a book and two girls their leaving certificates. Marion and Thelma Robbie also received good attendance cards. Mr Olsen presented the prizes to the winners in the calf and lamb competitions. Father Christmas was . present and each child was handed a gift and some sweets, from a well-laden Christmas tree. Supper was served and dancing kept going until after midnight.
