NINE CREWS DISMISSED IN AUSTRALIA.
LIABLE TO BE CALLED UP IMMEDIATELY. . (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) CANBERRA, December 21. The crews of nine ships in an Australian port who failed to take their vessels to sea have been dismissed. Men thus dismissed immediately become liable, to call-up in the armed services. The Commonwealth Government is stated to be determined to take a strong stand against the demands of striking seamen. Officials are amazed by the hold-ups in view of the outcome of a recent Sydney meeting of seamen who voted by a majority of 210 to 15 to take all ships to sea. The strike, the cause of which has not been revealed, originated in Melbourne and extended to ‘ Sydney, where numbers of vessels are now delayed.
