DOING THEIR PART

AMERICAN COAL MINERS. PRODUCTION RECORDS AGAIN BROKEN. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, December 19. United States bituminous coal miners, working under contract with the Government, dug 12,975,000 tons of coal in the week ending December 11. again breaking all production records for over 16 years, and establishing a new one on the basis of current mine manower. The Fuel Controller, Mr Harold Ickes, said this was conclusive evidence that the miners had . entered grimly into the fight against the threatened nation-wide coal shortage. The increases, however, were not enough. Production of 13,000,000 tons or more a week must be maintained throughout the winter if the current requirements were to be met without reducing the stocks to more dangerous levels.
