The Japanese broke through the Chinese cordon, north-west of Lihsicn, says a Chinese oemmunique. Considablc casualties were inflicted on the enemy in mopping-up operations south of the Li River. General Stilwell’s communique states that. 18 Japanese medium bombers, escorted by 40 Zeros, attacked the American main air defence base on Saturday, causing only minor damage to the field. Without loss, American fighters shot down ( four of the Zeros.
