Eighth Army on Adriatic Front TANKS OVERRUN GERMAN POSITION ALLIED GUNS TAKING HEAVY TOLL OF GERMANS LONDON, December 20. On land in Italy the Eighth Army <at several points 7 has thrust across the important Ortona-Orsbgna Road. In one sector it is a good mile beyond it. Today’s communique states that tanks overran an enemy position in this sector and many Germans were killed. The German losses have been heavy on the front as a whole recently. It is estimated that the 90th Panzer Grenadier Division lost about 2500 men. The enemy tank losses were also considerable. On the Fifth Army’s front short advances have been made at several points. In one sector, American and French troops have pushed the enemy back as much as two miles. They found the captured territory littered with enemy troops killed by Allied artillery.
