BOWLING
MASTERTON CLUB. NOTES BY “THE BOWLER.” Prior to commencing play on Saturday afternoon last, the club’s president, Mr H. Thomas, wished all bowlers the compliments of the season. He hoped that they would have a happy New Year, and trusted that the war clouds would soon blow over and peace be near at hand. The following are the results of the club fours played on Saturday:—Robertson (s) lost to Neilson (s), 10/20; Hendry (s) lost to Jones (s), 13/19; Hunter (s) beat Russell (s), 17/12; Percy (s) beat Davies (s), 22/13; Roberts (s) lost to Finlayson (s), 11/17; Reid (s) lost to Thomson (s), 14/25; Beecroft (s) beat Stubbings (s), 21/11. COMPETITIONS NEXT WEEK. On Monday and Tuesday next two separate competitions will be played commencing at 9 o’clock each morning. Intending players are requested to make their entries as early as possible. PARK CLUB. CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES. The following are the results of the Masterton Park Club’s championship matches played recently:— Fours: Kilgour beat Macpherson; Simpson beat Osborne; H. Smith beat Wallis; Reader beat Carstens. Pairs: Osborne beat Carr; Kilgour beat Winhall; H. Smith beat Carr; Spackman beat Simpson. Singles: Jenkins beat O’Donnell; Shearer beat Bell; Ferguson beat F. Dixon. Feathers: The new holders are Ewen and Heath. The return match with,the Masterton Club was played during the weekend in rather poor weather conditions. Six teams from each club took part and a very enjoyable time was spent. Masterton again proved the . winners by 9 games (190 points) to 3 games (142 points).
