Y.M.C.A. AFFAIRS
MEETING OF DIRECTORS FINANCE APPEAL TOTAL NOW £666 The Board of Directors of the Masterton Y.M.C.A. met last night when a most profitable three hours was spent in discussion of important affairs of the association. Those present were Messrs J. A. Kennedy (chairman), D. E. Lyttle, E. Esler, T. A. Russell, C. Sutherland, W. L. Hunter and R. H. Keltie. The general secretary, Mr Johansen, gave a comprehensive report of the Youth Department work, Youth Week activities, boys’ camp and the finance campaign. A considerable increase in membership was shown in the Young Men’s and Young Women’s divisions. Approximately 2500 persons used the Y.M.C.A. during Youth Week. The total for the finance campaign to date, with some donations still to come to hand and country returns outstanding, is £666.
Mr Johansen reported a sympathetic interest in the association’s activities by the Borough Council and other bodies, stating that during his five months as secretary he had noticed a definite revival of interest in the town as regards young people. A unanimous vote of congratulations was passed to the secretary for the progress made in the general work of the association. A vote of thanks was also passed to the finance campaign organisers.
It was decided to close the rooms from December 24 to January 3. \ Mr D. E. Lyttle was elected to the executive council.
After an exchange of greetings the directorate adjourned until the third Thursday in February, 1944.
