REDUCING EXERCISES.

REMOVING SURPLUS FAT.

(By the Department of Health.) One of the finest exercises in the world to cure the overeating habit is to grasp the edge of the table firmly with both hands and push yourself vigorously backwards when you re asked to have a second helping. Three times a day. of this will work wonders, according to reputable authorities. Exercises as a means of getting rid of that surplus fat,- which probably should never have been there in the first place, are important, but usually they are restricted to limited hours and require the privacy of the bathroom or the bedroom. If they keep -weight down, carry on with them provided they cause no pain in the chest or other distress.

Any exercise for obesity must involve all the main muscles of the abdomen and pelvis. The abdominal muscles can be contracted and relaxed at will, without much movement of tthe trunk, and with little practice they can be exercised while sitting or standing in the course of your day’s work, without anyone else being the wiser. Just try forcing the abdominal wall in and out while sitting or standing. This will keep the internal organs in healthy movement, and if you continue the practice the fat over and in those abdominal muscles will start to disappear. It can be done while travelling, while waiting for a tram or bus, sitting at a desk, or almost anywhere else at any time without attracting attention. This, of course, is only one means of exercise as a means to weight reduction, but. it is worth trying.
