OBITUARY , MR H. LAWSON. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr .Harry Lawson who died after an illness extending over several months, was trained in the office of Messrs Chapman Skerrett, Tripp and Blair (Wellington) and qualified as a solicitor just on the outbreak of the Great War, for which he enlisted early as a private. We went through the whole of the war and rose to the position of lieutenant. Returning home in 1919, and having just recovered from wounds received in the campaign, he entered the office of Mr J. W. Card, Featherston, and became a partner in September of that year, a connection which lasted up to the date of his death. Of a genial nature he entered into various activities of social and public interest. He was a foundation member of and for a number of years chairman of the Returned Soldiers’ Association. His services as president of the Wairarapa Automobile Association and. Mutual Insurance Co. secured him re-election on more than one occasion. He was treasurer of the Wairarapa Racing Club, and the records of the Featherston Bowling and Qolf clubs have his name as a player and administrative officer.
Thei’e was a large and representative attendance at the funeral on Saturday morning which left St. Teresa’s Church after Requiem Mass the celebrant being the Rev. Father McGlone
Wo officiated also at the graveside at the Soldiers’ Cemetery, after which the “Last Post” was sounded. Messrs A. R. Robbins, T. E. Lang. S. Raper, J. W. Fellingham, F. Cassidy, and G ; W. Brandon, all members of the R.S.A., acted as pall-bearers. The late Mr Lawson leaves behind -him a widow, two daughters, Misses /Margaret and Janet Lawson, and one son. Master Alec Lawson, a student at St. Patrick’s College. His eldest son, Sgt. Pilot John Lawson, was killed on active service last March. Patriotic Dance. The Patriotic Dance Committee held a dance in the Town Hall on Saturday night. The music was supplied by Mrs V. J. Ashton’s orchestra, and extras were played by Miss C. Saba, G. Fraser and Lauijenson. Mr Ashton was MC. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Private Clifford and Miss C. Saba. The supper tables were decorated by Mrs. G. Jenson. Supper was served by the committee. COSY THEATRE “THE VOICE OF TERROR.” On Wednesday night there will be shown “Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror,” founded on one of Conan Doyle’s famous stories. The leading roles are taken by. Basil Rathbone, Reginald Denny, Nigel Bruce and Evelyn Ankers.
