JAPANESE NAVAL & AIR LOSSES IN UNITED STATES ATTACK ON MARSHALLS ADMIRAL NIMITZ’S REPORT (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 1.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON, December 8. Two Japanese light cruisers, one oiler and three cargo transports were sunk by the United States carrier task forces which attacked enemy installations at Kwajalein and Wotje atolls in the Marshall Islands on December 4. Seventy-two Japanese planes were shot down and an undetermined number were destroyed on the ground. Admiral Nimitz’s communique, reporting this destruction, adds that one enemy troop transport and three cargo transports were also damaged. It says that the American task forces, which were under the command of Rear-Ad-miral Pownal, successfully fought off prolonged aerial torpedo and bombing attacks. One of our ships suffered minor damage, while our aircraft losses were light.
