Mrs Morton, Gisborne, is the guest of Miss Carey, Lansdowne. Mr and Mrs C. G. Monro, King Edward Street, Lansdowne, have returned from a visit to Castlepoint. Mrs A. P. Bennett, Essex Street, who spent a few days with Lady Ransom, Dannevirke, has returned to Masterton.

messages states. Mr C. C. Jackson, of Kopuaranga, received news early this morning from his sister, Mrs B. Hector, Lower Hutt, of the sudden death of 'her daughter, Miss May Hector, at the age of 31 years. Miss Hector was a granddaughter of the late Sir James Hector, K.C.M.G.

The death occurred yesterday of Mrs Alice May Wright, wife of Aircraftman V. S. G. Wright of Marlborough. The late Mrs Wright, who had been in bad health for the past four years, was born at Russell 48 years ago. She had resided in Masterton for the past ten years. She is survived by her husband and one daughter. The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the Chapel of Hyde's Funeral Service, Ltd., following a service at 2 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery.

Her many friends in Masterton will regret to hear of the death at Dunedin of Mrs Alice Dickel, wife of Mr Graham Dickel, formerly of Masterton. Mrs Dickel was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends in Masterton, who will extend their deep sympathy to the relatives. Besides a husband, she leaves two children, Neil and Lois Dickel. Mr and Mrs Dickel left Masterton about two years ago to reside in Dunedin. The funeral will take place at Dunedin tomorrow. The following ’ officers have been elected in connection with the Pahiatua Chamber of Commerce:—President, Mr Kirby Taylor; immediate past-presid-ent, Mr E. Jones; vice-president, Mr H. H. Elmes; secretary-treasurer, Mr S. C. Haybittie; hon auditor, Mr J. G. Brechin; executive, Messrs W. G. Scott, T. O. Stanley, A. A. Vaughan (formerly of Masterton), L. T. Herbert. B. Gray, R. C. Salmond, W. Clow, S. G. H. Hogg, Russ Merrie and G. S. McLauchlan.

The Dominion Headquarters of the New Zealand Boy Scouts’ Association has received cabled advice from Imperial Headquarters, London, of the award of the Silver Acorn to Commissioner Frank G. Southon, of. Te Poi, Matamata. The Silver Acorn.is one of the highest scouting decorations, and has rarely been awarded to a member of the Boy Scout movement in this country. It is awarded in recognition of exceptionally meritorious service to the movement.

The marriage took place at the Terrace Congregational Church, Wellington, yesterday afternoon, of Enid, only daughter of Mr and Mrs W. A. Michael, of Masterton, and Lloyd Kevern Whitten. son of the Rev. A. G. Whitten and Mrs Whitten, of Sydney, New South Wales. The bride was given away by he;: father. Miss Alison Goldsman, of Dannevirke, was bridesmaid, and Mr Roy Neilson, of Wallaceville, was best man. The Rev. H. W. Newell was the officiating minister. The bride’s mother was hostess at a small party held later in the Pioneer Club, Wellington.

The marriage of Miss Eileen Molly Noton, younger daughter of Mrs and the late Mr Robert Noton, Auckland, and Lieutenant-Commander Phillip George Connolly, D.S.C. V.D., M.P., Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve, only son of the late Mr H. B. Connolly, Central Otago, and the late Mrs T. S. Crawford, Dunedin, took place in Auckland on Tuesday at All Saints’ Church, Ponsonby. The bridegroom is the .-new Labour member for Dunedin West'. The wedding was a quiet one and there were no guests at the ceremony.
