Child Fatally Injured.
Bryan Hansen, the four-year-old son of Mr John Hansen, was found in the Clinton railway yards at 3 o’clock on Sunday afternoon with severe injuries to his leg and groin, from which he died last night. It is understood that the boy was injured while playing with other children. Chamber of Commerce. A reminder is given of the meeting to be held in the Y.M.C.A. Rooms tonight at 8 o’clock to consider the formation of a Chamber of Commerce in Masterton. The convenor of the meeting is Mr J. H. Cunningham and all business men are specially asked to be present.
Best Kept Records. The following are the results of the best kept calf club records competition in connection with the Masterton group of the Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs: — Gwen Cottle, Kopuaranga, 1; Elva McKay, Mangapakeha, 2; Ann Owen, Mangapakeha, 3.
Wairarapa College Break Up. The annual break-up ceremony in connection with the Wairarapa College will take place in the College Assembly Hall on Friday night, commencing at 8 o’clock. The principal speaker will be Mr Humphrey O’Leary, K.C., who was born in Masterton. Parents, guardians, old pupils and the public generally are invited to be present.
Cost of Hyde Railway Disaster. The railway disaster at Hyde will probably cost the Government about £200,000. The Minister of Railways, Mr Semple, gave this information at a complimentary dinner tendered him by the citizens of Westland and residents of Buller on Friday to celebrate the taking over of the Buller Gorge railway line from the Public Works Department by the Railways Department.
Tobacco for Troops. Cigarettes and pipe arid cigarette tobaccos, aggregating approximately three-quarters of a ton in weight weekly, have been required recently to fulfil orders placed under the National Patriotic Fund Board' postal tobacco, service on behalf of members of the New Zealand Forces serving overseas. In January next the service will have been operating for two years. Already in the current year some 14,500 piore parcels have been sent than was the case in the first year. Orders received to date sipce the service was inaugurated total 84,500.
