OFFICIAL STATEMENT
FIRM FRIENDSHIP EXISTS. UNDERSTANDING & LOYALTY. (Received This Day, Noon.) LONDON, December 7. The following communique was issued at the conclusion of the Turkish, American and British talks: “President Roosevelt, President Inonu and Mr Churchill met in Cairo on December 4, 5 and 6. Mr Eden, Mr Menemencoglu and Mr Harry Hopkins participated in the deliberations. The participation in this conference of the head of the Turkish State in response to a cordial invitation addressed to him by the American, British , and Soviet governments bears a striking testimony to the alliance which unites Britain and Turkey and the firm friendship existing between the Turkish peoples and the United States and Soviet Union. President Roosevelt, President Inonu and Mr Churchill reviewed the general political situation and examined at length the policy to be followed, taking into account the joint and several interests of the three countries. A study of all problems in a spirit of understanding and loyalty showed that the closest unity existed between the United States, Turkey and Britain •in their attitude toward the world situation. The conversations in Cairo, consequently, had been most useful and fruitful for the future of relations between the four countries concerned. The identity of interests and views of (the great American and British democracies with those of' the Soviet Union, as also the traditional relations of friendship existing between these powers and Turkey have been reaffirmed throughout the proceedings of the Cairo conference.”
