STALIN GRATIFIED

ACCLAIMED ON RETURN ■ TO MOSCOW- / FRIENDLINESS & CONFIDENCE ESTABLISHED RELATIONS ON A SOLID FOOTING (By Telegraph—(Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, December 6.. Marshal Stalin, who returned to Moscow some days ago, wag received with tremendous acclamation in the streets yesterday when the people saw him driving with Marshal Voroshilov. Marshal Stalin is reported to be greatly gratified and to have returned in the best of humours, says Reuter’s Moscow correspondent. The official statement on the talks, which was published in Moscow tonight, has caused the utmost gratification in all circles. If the Moscow conference created an unprecedented atmosphere of friendliness and confidence in the relations between the three Powers, then the Teheran conference has placed those sentiments on a solid footing. The Russian man-in-the-street is genuinely enthusiastic in the sober Russian way about the Teheran declaration, the correspondent adds. One cannot exaggerate the importance that is attached by every Russian to any solemn declaration signed by Stalin. When the Russian Premier puts his signature to the phrase, “We are friends in fact, spirit, and purpose,” then the Soviet man-in-the-street sees- solid prospects of a long era of constructive and sincere collaboration between the three Powers. The Moscow correspondent of the “News Chronicle” says the Teheran declaration meets the Russians’ desire for an Allied offensive strategy co-ordinat-ed on the highest plane.
