W.C.T.U.

MEETING IN MASTERTON. SECRETARY’S SERVICES APPRECIATED. At the monthly meeting of the Masterton branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, Mrs H. Speight entertained some fifteen members and friends at her home in Johnston Street. Mrs Maj oi’ Dick led the devotions. Miss Tankersley presided. The Temperance fact was supplied as follows: —“Vitamins are more or less stored sunlight. Oranges and lemons contain a higher percentage of stored sunlight than, any other fruits in the world. There are no vitamins in intoxicating beverages.” —Dr. Hector Munro, Harley Street specialist.

After the tea interval Miss Tankersley asked Mrs Speight to accept a bouquet of flowers in appreciation of her work in the interests of the W.C.T.U. throughout the year. The recipient suitably acknowledged the presentation.

An excellent programme of music, song and recitations was greatly enjoyed. Misses A. Barnes, Shong and Worrall contributed piano duets, Mrs Speight and Miss Worrall a vocal duet. Four little girls, Valerie Wootton, Aileen Hearps, Ann and Jill Pickering recited, and Valerie Wootton and Aileen Hearps sang two songs. Votes of thanks were accorded to Mrs Speight and those who gave items. Seasonal greetings were exchanged, bringing to a close the year’s work.
