CHILDREN’S REARING (i • MASTERTON GROUP RESULTS. GATHERING AT SOLWAY YESTERDAY. The annual judging of calves under the auspices of .the Masterton Group of the Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Club took place yesterday at the Solway showgrounds. Eighteen calves and 13 lambs were shown, and children from Te Ore Ore, Solway, Opaki, Fernridge, Te Whiti, Matahiwi and Kopuaranga Schools took part. The judging of the calves was carried out by Mr D. S. Stewart, and the lambs were judged by Mr L. A. Keats. The following were the results:— CALVES. Care and handling—Junior: W. Larsen, Te Ore Ore, 3. Mr L. A. Keats addressed those present, and said he was pleased to see so many parents and supporters present. He paid special thanks to Mr Stewart for his very capable handling of the calf judging. Mr F. C. Brockett also expressed his satisfaction at the very fine type of calves and lambs that were shown, and said that great credit was due to the children for the work they had nut in. Mr Stewart said that the calves he had judged were the best he had seen, and congratulated the children on their first-class condition. He concluded by giving the young competitors some valuable hints on training the calf to lead, and stressed the importance of good handling.

CARTERTON GROUP RESULTS OF SATURDAY’S JUDGING (“Times- Age” Special.) At the Carterton Showgrounds on Saturday the judging of the lambs and calves from the various schools in the Carterton group of the school agricultural clubs took place. , The judges were Messrs W. Howard Booth (lambs) and W. H. Hall (calves). The animals -made an excellent display. At the conclusion of the judging the prizes were presented to the winners by Mr M. J. Parker, president of the Carterton group. He thanked the parents, children and the public for having attended in such large numbers. He also thanked the judges for the able manner in which they had carried out their duties. Mr Parker spoke of the work carried out over the year by the committee and the secretary, Mr H. J. McKenzie. Messrs Booth and Hall congratulated the children on the excellent condition in which they had brought forward their lambs and calves. Mr McKenzie made an appeal for funds to keep the boys and girls’ agricultural club on a sound footing and up to the good standard it held today.
