CENTRAL SCHOOL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE
MILK SUPPLY.
RESUMPTION OF SCHEME PROPOSED.
The monthly meeting of the Masterton Central School Committee was held last night, there being present: 'Messrs W. R. Nicol (chairman), G. Masters, P. H. Shaw, T. A. Russell, G. Bilderbeck, A. I. Gibbs and A. E. Nelson.
The financial statement showed a healthy state and accounts amounting to £36 18s lOd were passed. The Minister of Health, Mr Nordmeyer, in reply to representations made to him regarding the resumption of the milk supply -to Wairarapa schools stated that the probable date of the operation of the proposed pasteurising and bottling plant was being sought and also under what conditions the late supplier would be prepared to resume supplies temporarily. Pleasure was expressed at the amount of the grant received from the Trust Lands Trust.
The headmaster (Mr E. G. Coddington) reported a roll number of 641 with a very good attendance in spite of some children’s complaints being somewhat prevalent. A survey of the work of the classes had been completed with very pleasing results all round, a Central School pupil, won the competition for a design for a Junior Red Cross Banner in a competition conducted throughout the whole of New Zealand.. A parents' day would be held on Wednesday, December 15, when school work would be on display for inspection and when the primers would have their Christmas tree function. The committee decided to write and congratulate Ivan Thomas and his art teacher, Miss Edge, on his success in the banner competition. It was decided to authorise the headmaster to procure a prize for the dux of the school, Stanley Milne, and for the Proximo Accessit, Betty Barnes. The committee elected representatives to attend the newly formed School Committees’ Association.
Mr Bilderbeck reported on the East School bazaar, which had proved an outstanding success. He reported that the Christmas party would be held on Thursday, December 16. It was decided to write to the Education Board regarding the flooding of the Central School grounds during very heavy rains and to draw attention to requirements at East School. The committee and the headmaster exchanged seasonal greetings and similar greetings were directed-to be conveyed to the staffs. The visiting committee was Messrs Dixon, Bilderbeck and Butler.
