WOMEN’S DIVISION

MASTERTON BRANCH MEETING REST HOME SCHEME SUPPORT OF MEMBERS WANTED The Masterton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, at its final meeting of the year, held in the Rest Room under the chairmanship of Mrs C. C. Jackson, passed motions of sympathy to Mesdames McAnulty and F. Innes, their daughters having met with a fatal accident m Egypt. Mesdames E. J. Wright and J. Gray reported that a parcel of woollen comforts for the Mercantile Marine was ready to be packed for sending to Wellington. * ' . The members decided to provide ice cream for the patients and staff at the Masterton Hospital at Christmas time and if possible fruit. The Dominion secretary advised tnat the branch had collected the most subscribers for “N.Z. Countrywoman” and had won the Dominion presidents , prize. _ _ The Dominion president, Mrs E. h>. Orr asked all members of the Division to support, the two rest homes in the South Island, “Melrose” at Nelson and “Te Kiteroa” at Waimate, in raising money for the furnishing and staffing of each home. It was decided to hold a shop day on January 19 and a garden party at “Moata,” the residence of Mr and Mrs W. Janies, Upper Plain, on January 29. The sewing stall was put in charge of Mesdames E. J. Wright, H. Morrison and C. A. Burling. All members are asked to help in every way to make • each of these ventures a success. It is hoped to have “Melrose” opened in February and “Te Kiteroa” , before June. Notice was sent by the National Utilisation of Waste Committee that mending of army clothing was closing down for the holidays. Therefore, the following Friday would be the last day of mending by the Sewing Circle of the branch.. This circle had done excellent work, which the committee had gratefully acknowledged. Mrs Jackson closed the meeting by extending best wishes to all the members for Christmas and hoped the New Year would bring tidings of peace and good will to all men. ■
