DESTRUCTION OF U=BOATS IN ATLANTIC LIKELY TO HAVE BIG EFFECT. ADMIRAL CONGRATULATES ■ AIRMEN. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Decembei’ 5. Following on the engagements in which at least six U-boats were destroyed by Allied aircraft in the North Atlantic, the Commander-in-Chief Western Approaches, Admiral Sir Max Horton, sent his warmest congratulations to the captains and air crews. He told them that such timely successes were likely to have a big effect on the enemy’s renewed offensive in the Battle of the Atlantic. A Liberator lost in these actions was captained by Wing Commander R. M. Longmore, eldest son of Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur Longmore, former Air Officer Commanding, Middle East.
