HOMING PIGEONS
MASTERTON CLUB. RACE FROM OPUA. The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club flew a race from Onua (North Auckland), an airline distance of 410 miles, at at the week-end. It was the final race in connection with the Rose Bowl. The following were the placings:—R. Stewart and Son’s “Young Imperial,” time 12 hrs. 18 mins. 10 secs., 1; J. Mayes’s “White Rajah,” time 12 hrs. 19 mins. 12 secs., 2; W. J. Miller’s “Dawn Patrol,” 12—20—14, 3; J. Mayes’s “Red Chief,” 12—20—34, 4; W. Drury’s “Cheerio,” 12—25—35, 5; A- Pinkney’s “Blue Bell,” 13—28—2, 6. The winner of the Rose Bowl was Mr J. Mayes, who has won it three years in succession. The following were the Rose Bowl points:—J. Mayes, 37 points, 1; A. Pinkney, 31 points, 2; R. Stewart, 24 points, 3; W. Miller, 20 points, 4. The club points are as follow:—R. Stewart and Sons, 5 points, 1; A. Pinkney, 72 points, 2; J. Mayes, 71 points, 3. Next week there will be a race from Mercer, an airline distance of 253 miles, for the J. Mayes Cup. From Taumarunui a two-bird teams’ race will be flown.
