DESTRUCTION OF ENEMY AIRCRAFT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) i ' WASHINGTON, December 2. The commander of the American fleets in the Pacific, Admiral Nimitz, announced: “Our aircraft continue on raid and search operations in the Marshalls. On Tuesday morning, Seventh Army Air Force Liberators bombing Taroa aerodrome were intercepted by 35 Zeros, seven of tvhich were shot down and at least four damaged. All our planes returned, but several were damaged and two men were injured. “A navy Liberator of the Fleet Air Wing which was attacked by Zeros near Mille atoll shot down one, probably shot down another and probably damaged two others. Two American destroyers in the Gilbert area repelled a prolonged attack by enemy planes, destroying three and probably destroying two others. Neither'of the destroyers was damaged.”
