LATE RATES FOR SHEEP

AT CARTERTON SALE YESTERDAY POOR DEMAND FOR PIGS. Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report as follows on their Carterton sale yesterday: —A fair entry of stock came forward. Sheep sold at late rates and all pens changed hands under the hammer. Spring cows and cows in milk sold better than last week but there was a short entry in these. Empty yearling heifers were in demand and sold well, while the .demand for fat and store cows was very firm. Pigs met with a very flat sale, there being practically no demand for baconers or porkers. Most of these were passed in. Store pigs were much easier although most of these changed hands. The following are the prices:— Fat shorn 2-th. hoggets, 21s to 235: woolly 2-th. hoggets, 26s 6d to 28s 6d; fat shorn 4-th. wethers, 25s to ,275; fat ewes (shorn), Ils 6d to 13s 8d; ewes with lambs at foot, 12s; store woolly ewes, 7s 3d; shorn 2-th. wethers, 235. Cows in milk (guaranteed), £7 to £9 10s; yearling dairy heifers, £5 to £6 Ils; small do. £3 10s; fat cows, £6 to £8 ss; forward cows, £4 to £4 15s; store cows. £2 15s to £3 18s. Pigs: Baconers, £2 5s to £2 10s; porkers. 37s to £2 4s; slips, 23s to 2?s; weaners, 15s to 20s,
