WELFARE LEAGUE

MEETING IN MASTERTON, REPORTS ON ACTIVITIES. The final monthly meeting of the Women’s National Welfare League for 1943 was held yesterday afternoon. Those present were Miss Kummer/in the chair), Mesdames S. Fletcher, H. P. Harrison, S. J. Munn, A. W. McKenzie, R. Whyborn, G. McCracken, L. Hunter, H. E. Pither, M. Sharnwebber, E. .J. Brown, S. N. Kilgour and Miss Guild. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames T. Jordan, R. C. Drummond, J. B. Carruthers and Miss M. Cameron. Members stood in silence for a few minutes in memory of one of the foundation members of the League (Mrs W. McKenzie).

A letter was received from the A.N.A. Club, Wellington, thanking the League for the hamper sent last month. Another hamper will be dispatched on December 6. Donations towards the same can be left at Mr Ninnes’s shop. Mrs McKenzie reported that one case had been assisted during November in connection with the. social welfare work.

Mrs Whyborn reported on visits paid to the Masterton Hospital in November. The visitors for December and January will be Mesdames Hunter, Munn, Drummond, Fletcher and Kilgour. A vote of thanks was passed to Miss Jean Millar for having made the Christmas boxes for No. 6 Ward. It was decided to visit the Buchanan Home on December 9. Mrs Pither gave a report on the work in connection with the blind. Miss Kummer wished members a happy Christmas and a bright New Year.. She was presented with a posy by the members, and shoulder sprays were handed to all the executive officers. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Sharnwebber for having made the floral tributes. It was decided that the League go into recess till March. The following doners are thanked: Messrs Hannah and Co., Mesdames Keltie and George, and Miss Dakin.
