WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
SOLWAV-MANAIA meeting WINNERS OF COMPETITIONS (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the SolwayManaia Women’s Institute was held in the Epiphany Hall yesterday. Mrs S. Munn presided and there was a large attendance of members. One new member was welcomed. Mrs and Miss Catton tendered their resignations, which were accepted with regret. Mrs Catton reported on the halfyearly council meeting held al Carterton. She was accorded a vote of thanks. Two balaclavas which were knitted by members were handed in. A gift donated by Mrs Munn for the member who knitted the most articles of clothing for the Plunket Society was won by Mrs Catton. It was decided that the hostesses for the February meeting be Mesdamcs R. Allen, S. Allen, Barnes, Butler and Bannister.
The competitions resulted as follows: Christmas novelties, Mrs Carr 1, Mrs Cornick 2, Mrs Munn 3. Cooking: Christmas cake, Mrs Woollett 1, Mrs Wesney 2, Mrs Allen 3. Flowers: Sweet peas, Mrs Moore 1, Mrs McMaster 2, Mrs Carr 3. Large bloom. Mrs Catton 1. Mrs Carr 2, Mrs Scrivener 3. Small bloom, Mrs Curry 1, Mrs Groombridge 2. The president and committee conveyed the season's greetings to members. ‘
Following afternoon tea, items wore given by the children of members and were much enjoyed. Each child was presented with a paper hat. Those taking part were: Thelma Woollett, Myna Allen, Betty Barnes, Mona Cairns, Lorna McNaughton, Dawn Allen, Keitha Catherall, Gwen Groombridge, Sylvia Hickling, Beryl Henderson and Bernice Lee.
