BOWLING

MASTERTON PARK CLUB COLTS BEAT CARTERTON PAIR PROPOSED SOCIAL EVENING With the return of the bowls from the official tester today, there will be renewed activity on the Masterton Park Club’s green. The closing date for the first rounds in both lives of the champion singles and pairs is set down for Monday, December 13, and the second round is to be completed by December 24. Tomorrow the champion fours will be advanced a further stage when the following teams will meet: Reader v Carstens, Shearer v Kilgour. H. Smith v Macpherson and Winhall v Osborne. Skips are advised to read the notices on the board concerning playing substitutes. At the weekend Park players will be guests of the Masterton Club, and members are asked to place their names on the board as soon as possible.

At a recent meeting of the committee final arrangements were made for the holding of a social and card evening for members and their wives on December 11 to mark the official opening of the new pavilion. Members are asked to hand in their names early.

Four new players were elected to membership. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr T. Newton for supplying a notice board to be erected at the entrance gate. Yesterday afternoon an interesting game was played between colts of the Park and Carterton clubs for the Kelly Cup held by S. Maxted and H. Stimpson (s) of the Park. The Park players, at the 11th head, were leading 19/3, but the Carterton players, E. Smith and W. H. Hall (s) then took up the running and were only 4 down on the 17th end.
