CARTERTON
S.M. COURT SITTING DRUNKEN MOTORIST FINED. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., presided over the monthly sitting of the Carterton S.M. Court yesterday. The Wairarapa Electric Power Board claimed from R. Lamb the balance of an account, £7O 8s sd. Judgment was given for the amount with costs £5 ss. L. J. Morris and J. W. Crawley proceeded against A. Flutey for possession of a cottage and rent amounting to £5 12s 6d. Possession is to be given forthwith, with costs £2 Bs. The case, Public Trustee v. R. M. Falconer, a claim for possession of cottage and £l9 Is rent, was adjourned sine die.
The police charged T. O. McCormack with having on October 17, at Gladshot a native duck during out of season. He pleaded guilty. Constable Williams at Gladstone he searched accused’s car and found some rabbits and the duck. The Magistrate fined McCormack £5 with costs Ils. t Lionel R. Thornton was charged by the police, with having been found in a state of intoxication on October 1 at Clareville, while in charge of a motor car. He was fined £5 with costs 6s, and his licence was cancelled for 12 months. Grant Herod was charged by the police that on October 9 at Carterton, he was found with liquor in his possession in the vicinity of a dance hall. A fine of £3 with costs 10s was imposed. G. J. Blake was fined £3 with costs 10s for a similar offence. W. J. Gay was charged by the police with having crossed the railway line on Brooklyn Road, Carterton, in front of an approaching rail car. A plea of guilty was entered. The Magistrate took a serious view of the case. He said that evidence in the case had been given that accused thought he was quite safe in cressing the-line as the rail car was some distance away. These excuses were no good. There was a compulsory stop sign erected at all railway crossings and should be obeyed. These cases were becoming too frequent and must be stopped. Accused was fined £7 with costs 10s.
W. J. Milne (Transport Department) proceeded against Keith N. Allan for having driven a motor vehicle on Hughes Line on October 23 at a speed exceeding 40 miles per hour. He was fined £2 with costs 12s. BOWLING CLUB COMPETITIONS. In connection with the Carterton Bowling Club’s competitions, the following were the results of games played last evening:— Champion singles: Whyte beat A. E. Hall, 30/11; Martin beat Clark. 21/11. Champion pairs: Foss and Riggs (s) beat Foster and Kilmister (s), 20/13: Curtis and Tucker (s) beat E. H. Smith and Hughan ,(s), 20/17. Colts singles: W. H. Smith lost to H. J. Dudson, 15/23. Personal Items. Seaman Colin Callister, son of Mi and' Mrs A. H. Callister, Brooklyn Road, will be the guest of honour at a .social gathering at the Belvedere schoolroom tomorrow night. Mr C. M. Clarkson, of Wellington, the newly appointed manager of the Bank of New Zealand, Carterton, commenced his duties yesterday. Royal Oak Hotel. Extensive additions are being made to the Royal Oak Hotel, Carterton.
