ARMISTICE TERMS
SOUGHT BY THE NAZIS , BELIEF IN BERNE DESPITE GERMAN & ALLIED DENIALS. , BUT UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER DEMANDED BY ALLIES. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, November 30. Diplomatic circles in Berne claim that, despite German and Allied denials, the Germans have’definitely stretched out feelers • for armistice terms, says Reuter’s Zurich correspondent. “The German denial,” he adds, “is thought to be due to the Allied unswerving adherence to unconditional surrender, and Germany is not yet prepared to swallow the bitter pill of open defeat.” The “Tribune de Geneva” says the German news agency, as expected, denied the peace rumours with indignation. However, it is a fact that certain travellers would never have crossed the frontiers if it had not been on an official mission. The Portuguese radio, quoting a message from Vatican City, stated that the Pope had granted various important audiences to Von Papen, who left Rome by plane after an audience with the Pope and Cardinal Maglione.
