GOLF YEAR
MASTERTON CLUB ANNUAL MEETING MOST SUCCESSFUL SEASON RECORDED. LINKS IN GOOD ORDER. The annual meeting of the Masterton Golf Club was held in Masterton last night when the president, Mr H. P. Hugo, presided over a fair attendance of members. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Miss Mary Innes and Mr F. J. Miller. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet Mr Hugo quoted figures which showed that the club had experienced a satisfactory financial year despite the difficulty of war conditions. The club was unfortunate in losing, the services of Mr and Mrs S. A. Mannering, Mr and Mrs Holdgate and Mr N. G. F. Whiteman. The groundkeeper had given exceptional service and the links had never looked in better order. The resignation of the former president, Mr G. W. Sellar, on account of illness was received with regret. Reference was made to Mr Sellar’s many 'years of service. Mr D. T. Herbert (secretary) was congratulated on his splendid work over the past years and pleasure was expressed at his decision to continue in that capacity. Officers were elected for the ensuing season as follow: —Men: President, Mr H. P. Hugo; vice-presidents, Dr. N. H. Prior and Mr J. Jameson; club captain, Mi- H. L. Esau; committee, Messrs C. C. Campbell-Heard, G. F. Candy, R. E. Baker, L. Connolly, J. H. Cunningham, C. G. Faulknor and C. K. Long; secretary, Mr D. T. Herbert; treasurer, Mr R. R. Burridge; auditor, Mr W, M. Sellar. Ladies: President, Mrs Hugo; vicepresident, Mrs H. H. Daniell; captain, Mrs N. H. Prior; committee, Mesdames R. R. Burridge, G. F. Candy, P. F. Fagan, J. A. Kerslake, H. Marshall, B. P. Perry and Miss D. Allan; secretary, Mrs A. J. Drew. It was mentioned that Mr Hugo had passed through all the offices of the club with the exception of the position of treasurer, The annual report stated that the past year had been a very successful one. A profit of £132 was made compared with a loss of £2B the previous year. The membership stood at 122. The committee had worked only to keep the course in playing order and only ordinary maintenance work had been carried out. The state of the course reflected the greatest credit on the groundsman.. The club custodian had carried on under difficult' circuin-
stances and thanks were due to him. There were 41 members on active service. The matter of a supply of golf balls was acute and there appeared, little prospect of any fresh supplies coming to hand.
