SOCIAL EVENING

MASTERTON ART CLUB. ONE-ACT PLAY PRESENTED. A social evening, held by the Masterton Art Club in the Savage Club rooms last night, was largely attended by members and their friends. Examples of members’ work were on exhibition, and Mr S. B. McLennan, A.R.C.A., gave an address, reported elsewhere in this issue, on “The New Order in Art.” Much appreciated items were contributed by Mr John Cunningham (piano) and Mrs C. Cook (vocal solos). Mrs E. K. Eastwood played the accompaniments for the singing. A one-act play, “In a Glass Darkly,” presented by members of the Little Theatre Society, was greatly enjoyed. The cast was as follows: —Valerie Henderson (a blind girl), Miss Josephine Gemmell; “Davey” (housekeeper), Mrs A. M. Stubbings; Dora Henderson (sister of blind girl), Miss Paddy Turner; Robert Keene (a painter), Mr J. M. Lawson. The producer was Mr Lawson, the stage manager Mr B. J. Roache, and the prompter Miss June Yelverton. The theme of the play concerned a painter doing a portrait of a girl with whom he fell in love, not knowing that she was blind.

Supper was served by members of the club. It was announced that a criticism would be held on December 15 in the Bannister Street Hall at 3 p.m.
