Large forces of heavy bombers last night carried out large-scale exercises, covering a wide area in Britain. Planes crossed the south coast at regular intervals from early evening until midnight. Soon after midnight the roar of yet another great force was heard continuously for an hour. Listeners said they had not heard so vast an armada for many months. Following the catastrophic raids on Berlin, these exercsies have quickened speculation on prospects of an early cross-Channel invasion
