IN CHINESE RICE BOWL AREA JAPANESE AGAIN USING POISON GAS. WIDESPREAD DAMAGE DONE BY AMERICAN BOMBERS. It is officially admitted that the Japanese are encircling the Chinese between Taoyuan and Tungting Lake, says an Associated Press correspondent. Meanwhile waves of Japanese infantry, with artillery and aircraft, are unceasingly attacking Changtch, which the Chinese are stoutly defending. Two thousand of the attackers were wiped out yesterday, when they charged the town after the release of clouds of poison gas. All the attacks weie repulsed. The Japanese are reported to be evacuating Taoyuan. American planes bombed an aei fldrome at Shasi and warehouses an docks at Swatow, says General Stilwell’s communique. They also attacked Japanese positions at Uangprabang and railway yards at Camduong, sank destroyers and set fire to a smal freighter in the South China Sea, sank an armed freighter in Amoy Harbour, sank supply boats in Tungting Lake and attacked Japanese troops, including cavalry.'
